Marine Standards Guidelines
Our inspections and reports reference the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and Transport Canada's Construction Standards for Small Vessels 2004 (latest edition) as inspection guidelines and a benchmark for our reports.
American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and Transport Canada are two leading providers of Standards & Recommendations for the Marine Industry in general, including boat builders, as well as boatyards and boat maintenance and repair shops.
Pre-Purchase Survey
A pre-purchase survey is the most comprehensive type of inspection and is strongly recommended when purchasing a new or used vessel. Marine surveyors examine the condition and overall operational capability of the vessel which includes structural integrity, out of water inspection, sea trial, electrical systems, propulsion system, fuel system, machinery, navigation, miscellaneous onboard systems, cosmetic appearance, electronics, and overall maintenance.
Pre-Offer Survey
Lets face it pictures on the Internet can make a boat look good. Many times it is not worth the survey expense. A pre-offer inspection will give you a verbal report of the condition of the vessel and major systems before you spend travel money and time. A portion of the pre-offer inspection price can be credited to an actual survey cost if you decide to go ahead with a conditional offer.Insurance Condition & Valuation Survey
An Insurance Survey is performed so the insurance company can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. They are interested in its structural integrity and safety for the vessels intended use. Depending on the insurance companies, they require updated surveys on used boats every 3 to 5 years, and they also want to know the vessel's fair market value.Appraisal Survey
An Appraisal Survey is performed to gather enough information to justify or determine the fair market value of a vessel. This is normally needed for financing, estate settlements, donations, and legal cases. Market research is carried out, and the vessel is inspected to help ascertain its correct value.Damage Survey
A Damage Survey is performed to assess the extent of damage, recommend repairs, estimate repair costs, and if requested, the probable cause of the damage.

After leaving several messages for various surveryors listed by our insurnace company, we had no response and proceeded to try to find our own surveryor.
